I have been asked several times what was the best part of the trip to New Zealand. That is a difficult question – I loved everything! There was not a day that passed that I was not blown away by something: the people, the food, a tour, etc.
BUT, at the end of the day my favorite part was the scenery and landscape. Nothing I have seen so far in my travels compares to the richness in color and the diversity in landscape to New Zealand.
Milford Sound is in the South Island. We took a cruise of the sound with the company Go Orange. The cruise lasted 2 hours. We were lucky to be able to see penguins since we were there in the very early part of Spring:
Driving in the South Island of New Zealand
The South Island is very rural with many one lane roads. There were so many times we pulled off onto the side of the road for picture stops. Sometimes we stopped for pictures of the scenery, sometimes we stopped for pictures of or with the animals 🙂
The Tropical North Island of New Zealand
The diversity of New Zealand’s landscape really surprised us. How can the North Island have palm trees and the South Island have snow? At the same time? None the less, the North Island has nice beaches and beautiful sunsets:
