Last summer I started assisting Elliot and Kelsey in planning their honeymoon to Italy. They had decided to fore-go a large wedding and spend most of their budget on their honeymoon.
One item I always discuss when building an itinerary for Europe is time. Give yourself enough time to enjoy the cities you are visiting. Don’t return home from a great honeymoon or vacation without remembering what you did! European cities hold so much history and there is so much to see. Give yourself enough time to explore.
After sitting down with Elliot and Kelsey twice, speaking over the phone, and passing an email itinerary back and forth a couple times, they decided to visit the following cities: Venice, Cinque Terre, Rome and Sorrento. They were super excited and for good reason – their itinerary was a great one! Full of great hotels, tours, traveling by train, city guidebooks, transfers and tours.
After they returned from Italy I spoke with Kelsey about their trip. Below are a few highlights and pictures:
Their hotel was located in the Jewish ghetto, which is far enough away from the center of town to feel slightly removed, but not too far to not be able to walk to restaurants and other sights. In their package they received a Venice Guidebook featuring city information plus a full city, fold-out map. The “streets” of Venice are all water. It is a must to secure the water-taxi before arrival. There are no signs and it is extremely difficult to get from the airport to the hotel.
Cinque Terre, Italy
Cinque Terre was Kelsey’s favorite city! Cinque Terre is 5 villages carved out from the coast at the end of the Italian Riviera. Each village is distinct, connected by stone paths, and an inner-village train.
A person can easily spend a week in Rome. There is so much to be seen in the city! Elliot and Kelsey spent 4 days. The time of year they visited is outside of the normal tourist season, so at many of the sights there were no lines. One of the tours that was pre-planned was an afternoon Vatican Museums tour. This private tour is available through our travel supplier complete with whisper system and a much smaller group.
Sorrento is a seaside town on the beautiful Amalfi Coast. It is also near Pompeii, which they toured with a guide. Their honeymoon ended in Sorrento, but not before they spent a full day with a private driver and guide on the island of Capri and a trip through the Blue Grotto:
It is delightful to be able to share in the joy of a great honeymoon! So many memories and experiences! I love hearing about each and every one!
